Shampoos, conditioners and other hair products are a main cause of hair and scalp damage and hair loss. Do a Google ”John Frieda Root Awakening shampoo: Skin Deep Database” and you will see that the shampoo (recommended in one of the other answers) was found to have seriously hair, skin and health harming ingredients. Also the shampoos suggested in another answer “Tresemme” and ” Herbal Essences” were also found in Skin Deep Database tests to have hair and health harming ingredients.
The Database lists brands of shampoos and other hair products that were found in tests to contain no harmful ingredients. They are the ones you should buy.
Just switching to a totally safe shampoo will certainly stop the loss and avoid further harm. However from personal experience I learned that shampoo harmful ingredients not only cause hair loss but cause the hair ducts to be blocked and thus prevent regrowth. It happened to me in my early twenties and the only way I found to unblock them and get new growth was to massage with pure natural oils (extra virgin olive oil or coconut or almond are good) into scalp and then brush with a palm held pure boar bristle hair brush (1/2” long bristles).
