Asked: Is there a point in growing your beard in Winter if all you can grow is a goatee?

My sideburns never really came in. I've got a few hairs on the sides, but mostly just moustache, underlip thing, and the hair on my chin down to my neck. It is pretty thick, people definitely notice it, and some have referred to it as a beard rather than a goatee. But in a way, I feel kind of silly growing it during the Winter when the sides aren't there. But I swear, I still feel much better out in the freezing cold than when I'm clean shaven, so I think it does something. In fact, my cheeks don't even get cold like I'd expect them to. Not sure if it's those few hairs on the sides, but I doubt it.

I LOVE GOATEES.

Eh hem. Imo, if you're facial hair is not growing in the way you want it to, I think it's best just to shave it. The cleaner look is better than looking patchy or off.

Actually, tying it up often CAUSES breakage!!

Here's what you need to do:

1. Do not sleep with it tied up. That causes breakage. If you HAVE to, use a soft fabric scrunchy not an elastic and don't tie it tight. Also, don 't brush hair too much, do not brush when it's wet, do NOT tease it.

2. Take a break from heat and chemicals for a few days. Try not to use them too often anyways after that. Buy a heat protectant to spray on your hair for the times you do use heat. (Heat and lots of chemicals make hair dry and more prone to breakage. It can also stunt hair growth which is bad since you want to grow your hair out.)

3. Make sure you always use conditioner. Buy a "deep conditioner" to use about once a week to make sure your hair is moisturized.

4. Only wash your hair every other day. You can still get it wet, and if you must, use dry shampoo if it looks greasy. Washing it every day causes hair to lose it's natural moisture.

5. DO get it trimmed. Only every few weeks, and tell your hairdresser you're growing it out so that she just barely trims it. But this is important to get rid of split ends. Split ends get worse if you don't cut them off, and work their way up.

6. BUY BIOTIN!!! It's a sort of vitamin you can buy at Walmart or drug stores. It has several benefits but specifically for you, it increases hair growth, makes hair thicker, more healthy, and strong. It takes a few weeks to see major* results but it works wonders. It SAVED my friends hair after she dyed it too much.
