Asked: Where should I have my layers start from if my hair is quite long?

My hair needs cutting but I want to keep as much of the actual length as I want to grow it a bit longer.Obviously I will have to have some length cut off but I want to keep as much as possible.I always get my hair layered but I never know where to get them cut from because I need more style to my hair so I don't want the layers to be too long because sometimes if they are long I feel it doesn't make much difference.

If my hair is long can I get the layers cut from about midway in my hair?I get confused because some people say that if you want shorter layers your hair needs to be a bit shorter and you have to get longer layers in long hair.

Oh and my hair currently is past my shoulders and long but not really long if that makes sense!I'm terrible at describing stuff to my hairdresser and I have come out with a fringe too blunt and my hair too short before now!

You know what!? Just straight up tell the hairdresser: 'I want my hair in choppy layers, please, I don't mind if its too long', trust me it's the best hairstyle for having a real shape to your hair!
Try to use a picture reference too though.

Consult with your hair dresser and ask him to cut your hair that suits your face cut more.

Hi,
This is one that really needs to be addressed by the professionals! Consult with your hairdresser, as it is difficult to say without looking at your hair. There are many factors to take into consideration. Hair texture, thickness & hair type! Some hairdressers can be scissor happy! So be careful, there is nothing worse than paying good money to have your hair done and come out dissatisfied. Find a picture that you like or a few, there are plenty online. A good hairdresser should be only to happy and should be able to advice whether this would be suitable for you & your hair!
