Asked: Can I bleach and dye my chemically straightened hair?

Back in March 2012 I got my hair chemically treated with the chi transformation system. It made my hair straight and everything but it did start to fall out, become dry, etc. Only recently (the past few months) my hair has finally stopped falling out as easily, regain some shine, and I can actually work with it now. Also, my roots are stronger now since my hair has been growing so I'm just trying to grow out this treatment!

I really want to do the ombr thing to my hair now. Im guessing it requires some bleach AND hair dye since I do have really dark brown hair. Do you think this is a bad idea for my hair? I'm afraid the permanent treatment I have in my hair and the bleach won't mix well. I really don't want my hair to fry and break off but I really want to ombr it! Any advice?

It sounds like your hair really couldn't handle the Chi treatment at all, Anything you do to the parts that were previously-treated are likely to break off or melt if it contains ammonia or peroxide. Hair bleach will be *far* too strong if it touches the Chi-treated areas, yes.If you really want to test it, snip off a section of hair and put the bleach on the test bit. Let it sit until the color is pale enough, then wash it off and see how gummy and stretchy the hairs have become; there's no going back from this state; the protein is dissolved.

Until that chi-treated length grows out, be prepared for it to melt under the chemicals and to break off within days if you use anything other than a natural (henna, cassia, amla, and indigo pastes) or peroxide/ammonia free tinting dye.
